Artist Statement

I am a visual artist who began making experimental films in 2005.  As a visual artist/ filmmaker I am concerned with the nature of change.  I have developed a technique of digitally erasing areas of found film footage frame by frame, and reediting that footage into my own narratives.  Deterioration was something I had been exploring in visual art and was interested in the physical effects of aging footage.  I was also influenced by a technique developed by Max Ernst called overpainting, where he would flatly paint over areas of found photographs and illustrations, transforming those images into something very different.  This idea of creating through destruction as well as change, regeneration and recycling are the underlining themes in many of my films.
